VRC WEST OAHU #1
OCTOBER 2023
On October 14th, VEX VRC Teams 359B and 3590A competed at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School for the West Oahu VRC Tournament!
TEAM COLLABORATIONS
Throughout the day, We reconnected with old friends and made new connections with fellow competitors. One lasting interaction we had with another team was with the Mililani Mechs Team. When team 359B needed a downloading cord, they benevolently lent us one. And when a member from 3590A was having trouble with her camera, Kaelyn from the Mililani Mechs patiently helped us out. This positive interaction strengthened our relationship as teams, and helped us understand that being a VEX team is not only about winning but also about giving each other a hand when needed.
RESULTS
Both teams made it into alliance selection at this tournament. Team 3590A paired with team 27301D, and team 359B paired with 3685B. Sadly, in the match of 16, our middle school team got eliminated. In the semifinals match with alliance 359B and 3685B against alliance 4142B and 42700A, human players had to control their robots and challenge themselves to compete the best they could possibly be. They swiftly shot triballs into the field and scored them into the goals. When the match ended, both alliances waited anxiously for their hard-earned scores… 359B and 3685B won by 1 singular point! Thanks to Masyn’s amazing autonomous, they won the match!
INTENSE MATCHES
At this year’s Nanakuli High and Intermediate tournament, a total of 24 teams from across the state competed and collaborated for a whole day! It was a day full of energetic matches and diligent teamwork. Human players gripped onto their controllers, synergizing with alliance partners to secure the win! A day filled with thrilling matches! Anticipating our skills rounds, which we earnestly practiced for. Lining up to do skills between qualification matches, we left no idle moment. Our hard work paid off because Team 3590A placed #1 in skills for the state for Middle School!
ALLIANCE SELECTION
By the end of the exhilarating day, team 3590A placed 15th place with a record of 3-5-0 (win-lose-tie), and team 359B placed 4th with scores of 6-2-0. 3590A made it to the round of 16, and 359B powered through and made it to finals! Sadly, they were eliminated by teams 42700X and 96789Z. 359B earned the Think Award for their awesome programming skills. Congrats to both teams for their determination and hard work!
LOOKING AHEAD
Teams 359B and 3590A are thrilled and grateful to have opportunity to compete at Jr. Searider! We faced many challenges, but our students are determined to transform them into stepping stones towards improving robot designs, match strategies, and team-to-team communications. Thank you to our wonderful mentors for guiding us through this exciting process! We are looking forward to competing again soon at the Waianae High School Tournament! Imua Waialua!
