NORTH SHORE VEX IQ TOURNAMENT

November 2024

Our local elementary school approached our team with the idea of hosting the first-ever VEX IQ Tournament at Haleiwa Elementary School. Our team jumped at the opportunity to welcome teams from all across the state to compete against and alongside each other! By supporting our local elementary schools, we can get more students interested in STEM, which is pivotal in creating future leaders in our community!

Expanding Beyond VEX

Twenty-one teams from all around the state came to compete with excitement in each team, preparing their robot to begin the tournament. Tables were filled with teams ready to meet their partners in upcoming matches to score the most points together. Teams were vibrant with every passing match, celebrating innovation and teamwork as our team encouraged young minds to come together and overcome this season's challenge!

Volunteering For VEX IQ

Our students utilized their skills and resources to set up video casts of our two fields on a larger screen for viewers to watch. We transformed the school cafeteria into a fully-fledged VEX IQ tournament venue using our technological abilities! It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our students' hard work enc, engage participants in teamwork, and celebrate their achievements. Attending the VEX IQ tournament fostered a sense of community with our local elementary school, bringing together competitors from different cultures and backgrounds to share their love of innovation and competition! To show our support, we also made custom trophies for the awards given to each winner. Allowing the tournament to have customized trophies from our Special Projects Program!

Finding Solutions

As the tournament began, we quickly realized the on-field timer was not showing up on the screen, causing competitors to miss switching their controllers at the correct time. Thankfully, with the help of the event partners alongside our students, we found a solution, with everyone sighing relief as the tournament continued. Hosting the tournament at Haleiwa has allowed our team to show our support and continue supporting the fostering of young innovators to eventually join our team, inspiring students within the community to get involved and join robotics to pursue their interests in STEM and compete in competitions!
