STEM-BASED DEMONSTRATIONS

NS Chamber of Commerce

The North Shore Chamber of Commerce hosted the North Shores’ first Car Show and Festival at Haleiwa Beach Park. An event including a car display, music entertainment, hula, over 40 food vendors, and more! We were invited to demonstrate our VEX and FRC program giving people the opportunity to drive our EDR robot and see how our FRC robot shoots cargo into a basketball hoop with help from our students.

Seeing so many people in our community interested in our robot and program shows that robotics is an essential part of our students’ journey through middle and high school because they receive exposure to tools and new technology that can help students pursue their interests further in the future! The event ended with an impressive firework display to celebrate the 4th of July!

AFCEA

AFCEA TechNet is the largest event in the Indo Pacific Rim focusing on regional defense issues and involves participants from military, government, industry, and academics. We are given the opportunity to showcase our FIRST and VEX Robotics Competition Robots, as well as demonstrate our entrepreneurship special projects as part of our STEM Learning Center. The students explain that robotics is more than just building robots, it is all the facets of STEM.

Along with showcasing our own Robotics program, students were given the opportunity to walk around the venue and network with companies attending the event to further possibilities in STEM after high school.

McDonalds Week

Our team takes part in the Friends of Hawaii Robotics McDonalds McMuffin fundraiser visiting our local McDonalds in Haleiwa to promote the Egg McMuffin, encouraging each customer to purchase and help donate to all teams throughout the islands. With each Egg McMuffin sold, $1 is donated towards a Hawaii robotics team. Customers ordering food are also given the opportunity to try out driving our robots within the McDonalds. The fundraiser opportunity is a great way to expose our community to FIRST robotics and STEM while simultaneously allowing the team to engage with the community.

Dole Luau

Our team annually goes to the Dole Plantation to host our end of the year, Dole Luau. At this event, we display and demonstrate our robot for the keiki and community also giving them the opportunity to drive the robots. Aside from the robotics side, we assist Dole in setup, cleanup, and serving food to the guests for the duration of the event. The event allows us to show how STEM has evolved over the years and lets us give back to one of our main sponsors.

Our last Luau at Dole was held in 2019.

Made in Hawaii

The Made in Hawaii Festival has served as Hawaii's premier event exclusively showcasing "Made in Hawaii" products, with vendors selling/displaying locally made goods, including art, clothing, jewelry, food, and so much more! We were given the chance to participate in this event showcasing what our program has made from the premium Catalytic Converter Shields to small items like shirts and stickers as well as an array of other items.

This event not only helps fund raise for our program, but also allows us to put ourselves out there and let everyone know that robotics is more than just robots.
