VRC WEST OAHU #2

DECEMBER 2023

On December 15th, VEX VRC Teams 359B, 359C, 3590A, and 3590B competed at the West Oahu #2 VEX Robotics Competition hosted at Nanakuli High School. We arrived at the venue with a positive attitude, eager to get our robots inspected and ready for the Qualification matches. After passing the inspection, we gathered together to strategize our approach for the upcoming matches. With enthusiasm and drive, our teams were prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

INTENSE MATCHES

The West Oahu tournament was a lively event, bringing together 26 teams from all corners of the state for a day of intense competition and camaraderie. With human players at the controls and alliances working in harmony, the matches were fast-paced and thrilling. Despite the absence of our programmers, our teams remained resilient and determined, finding ways to overcome the challenge of explaining the robot's programming to judges. Through practice and dedication, we were able to pull through and make a successful showing at the tournament.

ALLIANCE SELECTION

Throughout the day, we made so many new connections. One standout interaction was when we teamed up with Team 3685B from Waianae High School after the qualifications. Together, Team 3590A and Team 3685B discussed strategies for their upcoming matches, such as how to overcome challenges like a stuck catapult during the loading of triballs. At the end of the day, so many new and old friendships were kindled, and we came away with a deeper appreciation for the collaborative spirit of the competition.

LOOKING AHEAD

Teams 3590A and 359B are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the tournament at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School. Each competition brings new experiences and friendships, and we couldn't be more thankful for the mentors who guide us along the way. Through their wisdom and support, we are driven to overcome challenges and strive for success.

TEAM ARRIVAL AND PREPARATION

We arrived at the venue with a positive attitude, eager to get our robots inspected and ready for the Qualification matches. After passing the inspection, we gathered together to strategize our approach for the upcoming matches. With enthusiasm and drive, our teams were prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

TEAM COLLABORATIONS

Both teams made it into alliance selection at this tournament. Team 3590A paired with team 27301D, and team 359B paired with 3685B. Unfortunately, our middle school team got eliminated, but they were grateful to have come this far in the tournament. In the semifinal match with Alliance 359B and 3685B against Alliance 4142B and 42700A, human players had to control their robots and challenge themselves to compete the best they could be. They swiftly shot triballs into the field and scored them into the goals. When the match ended, both alliances waited anxiously for their hard-earned scores… 359B and 3685B won by 1 point! Thanks to their autonomous program, they won the match!

TOURNAMENT RESULTS AND CELEBRATIONS

As the day came to a close, team 3590A placed 5th with a record of 6-1-1(Win-Lose-Tie). Team 359B finished in 13th place with 4-4-0. While 3590A made it to the semifinals, 359B pushed through to the finals but was ultimately defeated by teams 42700E and 96789Z. Team 359B, however, was recognized for their exceptional design notebook, winning the Design Award. Both teams should be proud of their hard work and perseverance throughout the day!
