VRC WEST OAHU

September 2024

Teams 359B, 3590A, and 3590B arrived at West Oahu fresh and ready to compete! As soon as they got to their tables, the teams started preparing their robot for inspections. And after passing, they went to practice fields to ensure every aspect of their robot was in tip top shape. They were excited to show off their newfound abilities and ready to rumble!

INTENSE MATCHES

24 awesome teams gathered at Nanakuli high and intermediate, from all across the island. They all came together to collaborate and compete together. The venue was lively with anticipation and a call-to-action. The skills and competition fields were constantly occupied with students, each team working their hardest to prove their capabilities. There was never a dull moment!

TEAM COLLABORATIONS

Around midday, 359B was asked by a fellow team if they had any spare omni-wheels. After searching all their crates, they sadly came to the conclusion that they didn’t have any. Even though we were not able to help this time, we are happy to help every team in need!

ALLIANCE SELECTIONS

As the exciting day rolled to the end, Team 359B placed 6th with a score of 7-2-0 (win-lose-tie). 3590B placed 8th with a score of 7-2-0. 3590A placed 10th with 6-3-0. 359B was awarded the Create Award for their unique ways of meeting requirements and overcoming challenges. Congratulations to 359B! Everyone was sad to not have won, but learned what to improve on and do better in their next competition! Our students can't wait for Monday to get back into brainstorming solutions and continuing to improve.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS AND CELEBRATIONS

Alliance selection came around, and our teams were exuberant! After working hard in Qualification Matches, they couldn't wait to see what team they would move on with into elimination rounds. 3590B was chosen by 3685A, Ahi Slayers, ranked 4th seed. 359B chose 2459B, at 5th seed. 3590A chose 3685A, Da Kine at 7th seed. During qualification matches 3590B was sadly eliminated by 359B, however they knew they tried their hardest. In the semifinals, 3590A was also unfortunately eliminated. During 359B’s match against 96789X and 3685D, they tied with a score of 16 points each! But, in the rematch 359B was sadly eliminated. Even though they lost, they learned valuable lessons and strategies that will help them learn for their next tournament!

LOOKING AHEAD

Teams 359B, 3590A, and 3590B are so thankful for being able to compete at Nanakuli High and Intermediate. We are all so grateful for the opportunities that have come from these experiences and we wouldn't have been able to do it without our mentors, who have been crucial in guiding us to our destinations. We will go to our next tournament, St. Louis, on October 5. We are so pumped, and excited to come back improved and ready!
