Week One
Aloha! Welcome to the First week of the 2025 REEFSCAPE Build Season!
Check out our Week One recap on Youtube!
Day 1: Kick-Off
The season has started and we’re back brainstorming ideas for this year’s new game Reefscape! We started kick-off by joining our fellow Hawaii FRC teams at Saint Louis High School to watch this season’s game reveal. Once grabbing our game pieces and heading back to Waialua High School, we headed to our subdivisions to discuss the game before joining together at our team brainstorming session with some alumni mentors to discuss possible designs, strategies, and roles for this season! Documentation worked on going through photos and videos for the daily summary and weekly recap. Once we got things rolling, we headed out to begin planning the construction of field elements while Control Systems continued conceptualizing an autonomous route and a tele-op program. Overall, it was a great start to the season and we’re excited to continue!
Day 2
It's Day 2 and our team began work almost right away and started day two with a massive flourish. Our Control Systems were hard at work testing and coding the sensory detections of our robot for its fullest working capabilities. They also took the honor of teaching the newer students our coding and command-based coding possibilities and how to use and code the electronics of it all. Our Construction students were getting their hands dirty, using and cutting wood for the robot practice field. Meanwhile, our other students are CADing and making a tube framing for the pit, and CADing parts of the robot. Business, Media, and Documentation took our trusted photos and videos and resumed working on our website, media, and Impact Presentation and Essay. As we near the end of the day we look forward to what tomorrow will bring!
Day 3
Our construction team is working hard to build this year’s practice field, while other students are working on CAD and cutting parts for the pit. Each subteam’s duty is to distribute work and get things done in the most time-efficient way. The control system’s new students honed their skills in crimping wires and programming with trigonometry. Meanwhile, veteran students worked on the drive for the new season's robot. They also tested sensors, ensuring they were in pristine condition. The documentation team took pictures and videos of all the subteams, successfully documenting the day's work. We are thrilled to take new leaps forward in the days to come!
Day 4
Today inside the shop, our Construction students worked to drill and make metal bars for the framing of the robot and later had to dig up leftover sand from the water jet for later usage. Meanwhile our other students in Construction were CADing different prototype parts for the robot. In our Control Systems, the team coded on the robots sensory detections so they can be optimized. The Business, Media, and Documentation team took all our photos and videos, making sure that you are updated daily, as well as collecting clips for our Week 1 recap video. They also posted on Instagram with more information about the FIRST Impact Award exchange. As the day starts to end, our team is excited for what tomorrow will bring!
We are back once again with Day 4! Today, our Control systems started their day by teaching their newer students how to wire different electronic features while also having a debugging exercise using a breadboard, while our veteran students reworked the motors on the robot and the camera. Meanwhile, our hard-working Construction team was getting their hands dirty once again having to finish cleaning sand from the water jet with shovels and later throwing the leftovers out, while the other construction students were CADing and making different parts for the robot. The Business, Media, and Documentation team were taking pictures and videos while updating the website daily for our build season, completing today's hard work. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring us!
Day 5
We’re already halfway through week 1 for Build Season and today was a great day for our subteams! The Construction team got their hands dirty once again cutting different field pieces for the eventual robot practice field. Meanwhile, other Construction students helped work and test a prototype arm for our robot. Our Control Systems were testing their code for the drivetrain of the robot and making sure it works to its fullest potential. Business, Media, and Documentation took all the photos and videos throughout the day of our subteams, making sure that it’s all updated and ready to post on our website. We are making very quick progress and we are excited to show what we have in store!
Day 6
Day 7
We are back and hard at work for Day 7 of Build Season! Our Control Systems worked their day testing the robot, calibrating the drive motors while also taping out the elements for the practice field. In our Construction subteam they started cutting different plates to lay back into the water jet while also making parts for the robot and cutting out and assembling the wood for the practice field. The Business, Media, and Documentation team updated the website daily, gathered photos, video clips, and recorded the interview portion of our Week 1 Recap Video. It's almost the end of Week 1 and we are thrilled for tomorrow!
Day 8
It’s Day 8 and we are wrapping up Week One of Build Season! Our Control Systems started their day testing electronics and began writing the code for the actual competition robot. They also made a practice breadboard for the newer students to help them learn more about it. Our Construction team went into their day cutting parts for the robot, and also CADing the robot to make sure it works to the best capabilities. The Business, Media, and Documentation took all the photos and video clips, finishing up our Week One recap video, and testing some of our new Camera equipment. With Week One coming to an end, our excitement only grows for the future challenges that face us. We eagerly wait in anticipation of what the rest of Build Season will bring!
